Health - focus on what you want - not what you don't.
I remember being the 12 year-old with back pain. I had to hold on to the handrail to go down stairs. My eyes would fill with tears as I tried to bend over to play croquet. Yes, I wanted my pain to be gone. But that wasn't the real desire. I wanted to be able to run down the stairs. I wanted to beat my dad at croquet.
What do you want? More energy? Play better? Be more productive at work? Be happier with your family?
It all starts with health.
If you are ready to make an appointment to see if your health can be improved, give us a call at 360-733-1660.
The pursuit of health is about being the best you can be. In
fact, health has been defined as optimal physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
The word optimal is important. It implies exactly right for the circumstances. For example, right now I am sitting and keyboarding. My heart is not beating as fast or as hard as it would be if I was out running. It is beating faster and harder than if I was asleep in bed. Optimal function is - not too little - not too much - just right - optimal. We often take it for granted.
When food is eaten, it is normally digested and distributed throughout the body - even if we have never tasted the food before - we don't know how. We take it for granted.
If we cut a finger, it normally heals, perhaps with a little scar. We don't know how. We take it for granted.
Infections occur with viruses and bacteria. We might suffer a cough, diarrhea, vomitting, etc., but most often we will recover without medical help. Optimal function would be when we recognize the infection and take action quickly to contain and kill it. Again we don't know how it happens. We take it for granted.
How does all of the above happen? What causes health?
I believe health is caused by intelligence. I think of intelligence as the ability to adapt to new and trying situations. In each of the examples above something must change in the body to prepare for the circumstances at hand. That change is caused by a part of us that is intelligent.
Do you agree that part of you is intelligent? Do you
trust that part of you to keep you healthy? If you are ready to make an appointment click here.
Consider a car. In order for a car to go faster, it needs more fuel and oxygen. The fuel/oxygen mixture is controlled by fuel injectors. There are many sensors that monitor the condition of the engine to determine what the proper fuel/oxygen ratio should be. I'm not a mechanic, but I do know that the exhaust is monitored. Temperature is monitored. Vacuum sensors monitor some functions. There are oxygen sensors. All of that information is fed into a computer that then controls the injectors. Oh, there is one more thing - the position of the gas pedel. The driver is in control.
It makes sense to me that the human body is similarly intelligently designed. In fact, the study of physiology is the process of figuring out how the body works to control optimal function and what to do to assist when out of control.
What makes my chiropractic office different is recognition that the innate intelligence of the individual patient must be considered as the ultimate creator of health.
Like your car, sensors in your body send information to your brain to control the function of your body. Most of the function is at the subconscious level. If things get out of control, we become conscious of a problem through pain or some other sensation and we must change our behavior or seek help. Similar to problems with the wiring or sensors of your car, problems can occur with your nervous system and your body won't function properly.
I have tests that I believe are indicators of your health. However, my indicators are specific for you and are not compared to some "normal" group. I'm looking for how your nervous system is working to make sure you are adapting to your environment.
What do you want? Focus on what you want. Focus on being
better, doing more. Optimal function. Are you ready to be the best you can be? Call 360-733-1660 for appointment.
A woman came to me for a consultation and I asked what she wanted. She said that she needed to lose weight. She wanted to be able to move and do things, everybody told her that her pain was due to her weight.
Her husband said that he didn't care if she lost weight. He just wanted his wife back. He wanted her to be happy. He wanted her to be able to climb stairs without crying.
I told her that I didn't know if weight was her problem or not. I would examine her for subluxation - a problem with her spine affecting her nervous system.
I watched her get out of a chair. She would stand for nearly half a minute before she could start walking.
She did have subluxations limiting her health. After a few months of care, she was not only jumping out of a chair and running across the room, she was helping her husband place pavers in their driveway. She didn't lose any weight.
She got her life back.
Are you ready to get your life back?
